GBM #3: Simula Ng Sumayaw!

To build excitement for our upcoming Barangay event, we held a dance workshop that introduced everyone to five traditional Filipino dances. It wasn’t just about learning the moves, it was also a way to bring people together and find performers who might want to join the event!

We rotated between stations. Starting with Tinikling, where we had to time our steps between bamboo poles that clapped together with rhythmic and modern twists. It was fast and definitely fun to try out. Moving to with Cariñosa, a sweet and graceful courtship dance. Then on to Maglalatik, a lively dance using coconut shells slapped against the body in rhythm to mimic a battle. After that, we tried Bulaklakan, a bright dance with flower garlands raised overhead. Sakuting came last, with stick work inspired by Arnis, the Filipino martial art. Each one was led by one of our ACT Leaders: CJ, Des, Shem, Milian, Amila, and Ariana. They taught us the steps, helped keep the energy up, and made the whole experience really enjoyable. Thank you ACT Leaders! Whether we were getting the moves right or just having a good laugh, it was fun to connect with Filipino culture and each other. It was the perfect way to start recruiting old and new faces into fun dances with Barkada. This truly was the Simula ng Sumayaw!
